Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup cold water
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Make three wells in the dry ingredients. Pour the vegetable oil into one well, the vinegar into another well, and the vanilla extract into the third well.
Pour the cold water over all the ingredients in the bowl.
Stir the mixture with a fork or whisk until the batter is smooth and well combined. Make sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl to incorporate all the ingredients.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cake is cooled, you can frost it with your favorite frosting or dust it with powdered sugar, if desired.
